AI is a rapidly developing field that attracts significant interest from research institutions, business, and users alike. Solutions utilizing artificial intelligence have become a part of our daily lives. In industries such as software development, graphics, design, or customer service, AI is now essential to remain competitive.
In June 2025, as part of the EuroHPC JU project, the work of the Consortium of the first Polish AI Factory, PIAST-AI, was inaugurated at PCSS. Thanks to this breakthrough investment, Poznań will become an important flywheel in the development of fields such as IT, cybersecurity, space technologies, robotics, and sustainable development. As part of the factory, a server for AI computing applications will be purchased, which will be equipped with over 1000 graphics cards and integrated with the quantum and computing ecosystem.
Comprehensive services based on the PIAST-AI system will be launched in the third quarter of 2026. The use of state of the art AI technologies will stimulate innovation and ensure Poland’s competitiveness on the digital map of the world. The benefits of this investment are hard to overstate. It will create a dynamic knowledge exchange system addressing social, environmental, and economic challenges. The launch of PIAST-AI also represents an important step towards ensuring Europe’s technological sovereignty, based on the ethical use of artificial intelligence and the pursuit of sustainable development in this field.
PCSS is a leading Polish and European unit in terms of developing AI based technologies. This is evidenced by the national and international projects carried out in our Center.
Due to the rapid development of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) ecosystem and the increase in the amount of data shared within it, more emphasis is being placed on the development of services based on this data. The goal of the AI4EOSC project is to expand the EOSC ecosystem with AI/ML/DL related services for the effective use of large and distributed datasets. AI4EOSC continues the development of the DEEP platform (including Deep-as-a-service) created under the H2020 DEEP-Hybrid-DataCloud project and used by scientists to train and develop machine learning and deep learning models. The platform will be expanded with advanced functionalities of distributed, federated AI learning, data provenance tracking, and event-driven data processing. Several scenarios are being developed within the project, including an agricultural scenario: the use of AI for disease recognition, implemented by PCSS and WODR (Wielkopolska Agricultural Advisory Center). Its goal is to determine the risk of diseases in crops and the condition of the crops. The developed AI models will be integrated with the existing eDWIN platform operated by the Wielkopolska Agricultural Advisory Center and PCSS.
Another initiative is the EU project under Digital Europe: agrifoodTEF, whose main goal is to support technology companies from the agri-food industry in developing their achievements in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics, as well as validation in real conditions and on real objects. Within this agrifoodTEF project, a project with a total value of 60 million euros involving 36 partners from 9 countries, the Polish satellite includes PCSS, Lukasiewicz – Poznan Institute of Technology, and the Wielkopolska Agricultural Advisory Center. Small and medium-sized entrepreneurs who provide solutions for the agri-food industry, are manufacturers of agricultural machinery or food processing machinery, software developers, agricultural robot manufacturers, startups, R&D investing enterprises, or entities that have an available de minimis aid limit and develop AI technology in their product or implement robotic technologies, can join the cooperation. Meeting just one of these conditions is enough to talk about cooperation.
