Dolnośląski Festiwal Nauki: Innovative Tools Whithin Our Reach

Dolnośląski Festiwal Nauki (Lower Silesian Festival of Science, DFN) is an annual event organised by various universities from Wrocław, as well as numerous Polish Academy of Sciences institutes and other parties. Two of PCSS’s experts – Błażej Betański and Michał Kosiedowski, participated in this year’s edition of the festival. They gave a lecture about digital innovations in science and society. Their presentation included topics such as workflow, cooperation, and inclusivity as well.

The event was also an opportunity to present the technical details of the Wirtualne Laboratorium Transkrypcji (the Virtual Laboratory of Transcribing). The Laboratory collaborates with the University of Wrocław on the introduction of the TransLab system – a convenient and advanced tool, which allows for the creation of digital texts on the basis of scanned documents. Another technological solution presented during the lecture was the innovative INSENSION system. It allows people with profound and complex intellectual disability to engage more easily with others within their daily environment.

As usual, the participants had the chance to take part in many different lectures, to discuss their interests with scientists, and to tour laboratories and workshops, which are usually inaccessible. Biologists, doctors, humanists, and artists shared their passion and knowledge with guests. The festival was coordinated by the DFN office at the University of Wrocław. Its staff was appointed by the joint rector’s council of various universities in Opole and Wrocław.

Having PCSS experts at the DFN festival was a unique opportunity to present undertaken projects and upcoming possibilities. It also allowed gathered experts to share their expertise in an open and inspiring environment.
