E-RIHS ERIC Opening Days

E-RIHS ERIC Opening Days

Aleksandra Nowak, who is the Head of Digital Libraries and Knowledge Platforms Department at PCSS, participated in the E-RIHS ERIC Opening Days in Florence (Italy) on 12–14 November 2025. During the panel “National Digital Initiatives and the European Perspective”, she presented PCSS’ activities related to cultural heritage, as well as the Center’s involvement in the ECCCH initiatives and European research infrastructures such as DARIAH and E-RIHS, with a particular emphasis on the ERIHS.pl project. The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to discuss how European cooperation can offer mutual support and how to build a sustainable digital heritage ecosystem.

The E-RIHS ERIC Opening Days marked the official launch of this research infrastructure. The programme covered the engagement of young cultural heritage professionals, opportunities arising from the integration of E-RIHS services and resources, and the contribution of the infrastructure to strategic European initiatives such as DARIAH, Data Space for Cultural Heritage, and the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH).

Apart from Aleksandra Nowak, the Polish delegation included Michał Jabczuga from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and Prof. Barbara Warner from the University of Warsaw – both delegates to the E-RIHS General Assembly, as well as Prof. Piotr Targowski, Chair of the E-RIHS.pl Council.

Dr Vania Virgili, Director-General of E-RIHS, remarked that — the Opening Days represent an important milestone in the life of E-RIHS ERIC, as they provide a concrete opportunity to showcase our work, strengthen collaboration, and highlight the contribution of heritage science to society.

— This event was an excellent opportunity to discuss how national and European digital initiatives in the field of heritage science can work together — added Aleksandra Nowak.

E-RIHS.pl is a consortium of 14 institutions and serves as the Polish national node of the European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science (E-RIHS ERIC).
