EuroHPC JU expands the AI Factories initiative – AI Factory Antennas will connect Poland and Moldova

EuroHPC JU is strengthening the European artificial intelligence infrastructure network. The investment aims to create 13 AI Factory Antennas, which will allow new partner countries to access existing AI Factories without having to build their own facilities. As part of the project, the Moldova AI Factory Antenna (FAIMA) will be established. It will operate in close coordination with the PIAST-AI Factory located at PCSS.

Poznań is taking another major step in the development of AI Factories by establishing a strategic Antenna in Moldova. This is crucial, as the AI Factory Antennas will allow more countries in the EuroHPC programme to implement their own national AI Factory services. As a result, they will not need to invest in their own costly supercomputing infrastructure, emphasizes Robert Pękal, the Director of PCSS.

FAIMA’s key areas of operation will include agriculture and food, healthcare, and other public sector segments such as education. The Antenna will significantly expand the potential to create and integrate national AI “ecosystems” while increasing the availability of AI-optimized supercomputing technologies. Public institutions, education sectors, startups, and researchers will all benefit from its launch.

It is worth recalling that the first Polish facility initiated by the European Commission to participate in the “AI Factories” programme was the PIAST-AI Factory at PCSS. Thus, Poznań is already playing a major role in fields such as IT, cybersecurity, space technologies, robotics, and sustainable development.

The PIAST-AI consortium operates in cooperation with Poznań University of Technology, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, and Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, as well as with regional clusters and innovation hubs, in particular the Wielkopolska ICT Cluster. The investment is supported by the Ministry of Digital Affairs, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and the Ministry of Finance, which coordinates the overall process.

Poland’s AI sector is developing dynamically and maintains close cooperation with its European partners. The recently initiated Gaia AI Factory will closely collaborate with the PIAST AI Factory in Poznań and the LUMI AI Factory in Finland, creating an integrated, distributed ecosystem for artificial intelligence development in Poland and across Europe. Direct access to the three AI Factories will accelerate AI access, foster digital innovation, and strengthen Poland’s position as a key player in the European AI landscape.
