Inauguration of the QEC4QEA Project in Jülich

On January 19–21, 2026, the inauguration of the QEC4QEA project (Quantum Centre of Excellence for Quantum Enhanced Applications) took place at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) in Germany. The initiative brings together 19 institutions from across Europe. The project partners will collaborate on developing solutions that enable the creation of unified access platforms for quantum computers distributed across various European sites.

The project also aims to prepare use-case scenarios and tools to support the implementation of quantum algorithms, ensuring an easy and intuitive environment for end users to run quantum applications. The scale of the undertaking places QEC4QEA among the largest initiatives of its kind in Europe and demonstrates the growing interest in developing software and practical applications of quantum technologies within the HPC environment.

Within the project, PCSS will serve as the leader of Cluster E and a work package, strengthening cooperation with, among others, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (AMU), the Institute of Theoretical Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (CFT PAS), and Vilnius University (VU), as well as with European supercomputing centers hosting EuroHPC quantum computers: CINECA (Bologna, Italy), CEA (Paris, France), BSC (Barcelona, Spain), and Forschungszentrum Jülich / JSC (Jülich, Germany).

Through this collaboration, PCSS and its partners aim to develop key technological and organizational components supporting the advancement of access services for quantum computing in Europe.
