Innovative Collaboration Between PCSS, ORCA Computing, and Imperial College London – A Quantum Revolution for Data Centers

In mid-September 2025, ORCA Computing announced plans to integrate photonic quantum AI within the operations of stationary data centers. This technology was demonstrated in collaboration with Imperial College London and PCSS. The partnership brings together leading scientific and research expertise within a fully functioning data center environment.

At the core of this initiative are two ORCA PT photonic quantum processors, installed in the PCSS data center alongside NVIDIA Hopper GPU processors.
Working together with Imperial and PCSS, we’ve delivered a working demonstration of a distributed photonic quantum neural network inside a real data center, said Dr. Richard Murray, co-founder and CEO of ORCA Computing.

According to DSc Krzysztof Kurowski, Head of the Quantum Technologies Department, the collaboration with ORCA and Imperial College has enabled the creation of an innovative hybrid quantum-classical system at PCSS.

The open, easy integration of multiple QPUs and NVIDIA GPUs demonstrates that quantum-accelerated supercomputing is not just tomorrow’s promise but today’s reality, he emphasized.

NVIDIA is currently working with quantum computing pioneers to accelerate the development of technologies in the areas of quantum applications, error correction, infrastructure, and AI integration.
