New Direct Connection for Research Networks in Poland and Germany

DFN-Verein and PCSS have just launched a direct 100 Gbit/s connection between X-WiN and PIONIER networks. This opens an additional transmission path that complements the existing X-WiN and PIONIER links to the GÉANT network. The new connection optimizes the performance of numerous applications and the use of resources at the GÉANT interface. Additionally, it enables the operators to set up new connections for advanced research projects that require high bandwidths for cooperating scientific institutions in Poland and Germany.

The external connections of the X-WiN science network are continuously monitored for utilization and traffic flows. Their development is continuously carried out in close cooperation with partner networks. The purpose of linking two networks’ routers directly (known as Private Network Interconnection) is to ensure a secure and efficient data flow that reduces latency and packet loss. This translates into improved availability and response times, but above all, it serves to increase the network’s resilience and reliability.
