“Hot” technologies for cold days
Despite the winter aura, the pace of technological work at PCSS is not slowing down, and Poznań continues to strengthen its position as an AI leader in Central and Eastern Europe. We are building the foundations for large-scale artificial intelligence systems, as confirmed by the appointment of our experts to the AI Council of the Marshal of the Wielkopolska Region and the inauguration of FORT KRAKÓW – the first accelerator in Poland under NATO DIANA, where we serve as a testing center. Our innovations are making a real impact: from proprietary algorithms that increase potato yields to the deployment of RankINN software optimizing investments at Enea Operator.
In this edition of the newsletter, we also present the launch of the “Genomics for Poland” (G4PL) project and the development of the PUCHACZ platform, which will revolutionize cybersecurity through AI. We are actively engaged in protecting cultural heritage by co-creating the European 3D-4CH center and the ECCCH cloud, while also advancing future technologies within the QEC4QEA quantum center of excellence. The scientific foundation of our activities is further strengthened by a publication in the Journal of Manufacturing Systems on intelligent manufacturing.

PCSS plays a key role in strengthening Poznań as one of the leading artificial intelligence hubs in Central and Eastern Europe. Acting as the operator of a node within the national research infrastructure – the PIONIER network – the Center ensures secure data exchange and brings unique experience gained from the implementation of numerous European projects. The established ecosystem, built on stability and trust, provides a solid foundation for the development of large – scale AI systems across the region.
In Poznań, the Artificial Intelligence Council was inaugurated as an advisory body supporting Marshal Marek Woźniak in the region’s digital transformation process. The initiative is intended to make AI a foundation of a modern economy and administration, with particular emphasis on innovation in healthcare, ecology, and public services. This prestigious body includes three experts representing PCSS.
In January, FORT KRAKÓW – DIANA Accelerator Poland was officially inaugurated. It is the first NATO defense innovation acceleration center in Poland, established by AGH University of Science and Technology and Krakowski Park Technologiczny. PCSS, serving as a NATO DIANA testing center (AI, Cyber, Quantum), expects the Accelerator’s support in acquiring partners for testing and substantive assistance in TEVV processes for end users.
The use of proprietary irrigation algorithms and LoRaWAN infrastructure enabled potato yields to increase by over one-quarter while saving water. The results of the PCSS team’s work were presented during a training organized by the Wielkopolski Ośrodek Doradztwa Rolniczego w Poznaniu, focused on AI and robotics in crop protection.
Projects
The largest genomics project in Poland’s history is underway. Genomics for Poland (G4PL) is a nationwide genomics research infrastructure being developed by 12 scientific institutions, with Instytut Chemii Bioorganicznej PAN as the lead. The project includes genome sequencing, the development of analytical tools (including AI), biobanks, and a secure data repository. Data from 6,000–7,000 donors will also contribute to the European Genome of Europe.
Ahead of us is the implementation of the largest project submitted in the second FENG 2.4 call for network institutions: PUCHACZ – Platform for Obtaining Characteristics of Adversaries and Cyber Threats. Coordinated by PCSS, the project addresses various aspects of combating cyber threats and developing technologies in the fields of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, particularly the application of AI approaches in cyber defense.
At the historic Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna, a meeting was held to launch a new project actively supporting the development of the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH). During the inaugural meeting, attended by representatives of PCSS, partner presentations were given, highlighting the roles of individual teams and their contributions to the project’s development and visual identity; the logo and new website were also presented.
The 3D-4CH Online Competence Center has been launched – a new European platform dedicated to the advanced digitization of cultural heritage. Co-financed by the European Union, this interactive tool enables professionals and researchers to test innovative solutions in 3D modeling, artificial intelligence, and extended reality (XR). The “living platform” emphasizes open access and collaboration among experts across Europe, making a tangible impact on heritage preservation in the digital age.
PCSS developed and implemented the complete RankINN software, supporting decision-making processes in the field of energy investments. The solution, based on a proprietary investment algorithm, was created in close substantive collaboration with Enea Operator experts and serves as a key component in the digitalization of energy infrastructure.
From January 19 to 21, 2026, the inauguration of the QEC4QEA (Quantum Centre of Excellence for Quantum Enhanced Applications) project took place at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) in Germany, bringing together 19 institutions from across Europe. The initiative’s partners will collaborate on developing solutions to enable the creation of unified access platforms for quantum computers located in various European centers.
In issue 85 of the Journal of Manufacturing Systems (ScienceDirect), the article “The SHOP4CF modular reference architecture for flexible process-oriented, data-driven smart manufacturing” was published, co-authored by Michał Zimkiewicz from the Department of Large-Scale Applications and Services. The work is the result of the SHOP4CF project, in which PCSS was responsible for the architecture of solutions implemented in factories by the project partners.
