PIONIER.TV “Hot science: the first Polish coronavirus test”

Scientists from the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznan developed the first Polish test detecting the presence of SARS-CoV-2. Recently, the Institute organized a press conference in the PSNC tv studio regarding the test and issues related to its production. Taking advantage of this opportunity, the PIONIER.TV team prepared several episodes of the popular scientific series entitled: “Hot Science”.

“What kind of test do we need now?” The answer to this question was crucial for the scientists from the IBCH PAS before the start of their work. The Director of the Institute, Professor Marek Figlerowicz will explain us the exact application of the first Polish test for coronavirus SARS-COVID-2 and its effectiveness based, among others, on a unique factor that was used in it.

In the next episode, Professor Figlerowicz raises two important issues: financing and interest in the Polish test around the world. The Director of IBCH reveals how many millions of zlotys were allocated for this purpose; what amount was intended for further development research and how much for test production.
Professor Agnieszka Fiszer from the IBCH PAS Viral Support Group explains how the test for SARS-COV-2 coronavirus is used and how it works.
In the latest video mateiral, Dr Luiza Handschuh – coordinator of the “Viral Support Group”, who heads the Genomics Laboratory of the IBCH PAS on a daily basis – introduces two leading theories about how SARS-COV-2 overcame the interspecies barrier. We will also learn how it differs from others – better known viruses such as SARS, MERS, EBOLA or influenza virus.
