AgriFood Data Infrastructure and Services (AFDIS) addresses the fragmentation of digital infrastructure and data across the European agri-food sector, which limits cross-border data sharing, AI applications and data-driven innovation. The project brings together 10 Member States to develop shared digital infrastructure and interoperable services supporting the digital transformation of agri-food systems.
A key element is a common Farm eID, designed to interconnect national identification systems and simplify the identification of farms and other agri-food actors. The infrastructure will support secure data sharing and alignment with European digital identity frameworks, including the EUDI Wallet and eIDAS 2.0.
The Farm eID and related infrastructure will be expanded through a portfolio of multi-country use cases, implemented by the consortium and third parties through Financial Support to Third Parties (FSTP). These actions will demonstrate the use of interoperable data and digital services across different parts of the agri-food sector.
AFDIS will contribute to reducing data fragmentation and administrative burdens while enabling trusted cross-border data flows for automation, AI applications and data-driven decision-making. The results are intended to provide a basis for long-term European-level governance and further deployment through the planned European Digital Infrastructure Consortium (EDIC) for Agri-Food.
