GenAI4Earth
Generative Artificial Intelligence for Earth System

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is rapidly advancing, offering new ways to exploit multidisciplinary data and generate knowledge for science. In Earth System Science (ESS), it can transform how complex socio-environmental systems are understood, predicted, and managed by connecting fragmented data sources, including observations, models, experiments and texts.

GenAI4Earth will design, deploy, and operate trustworthy, reusable GenAI services within the EOSC ecosystem, supporting discovery on Earth–climate–environment–life interactions in co-design with user communities and research infrastructures.

Aligned with GenAI4EU and Apply AI, the project builds on FAIR data, models, and workflows, integrating them into EOSC resources such as AI4EOSC, Data Terra, and NFDI to promote standards, best practices, and trust in AI-enabled dataspaces and foundation models.

GenAI4Earth will:

  • improve FAIRness, AI-readiness, machine-actionability, and provenance of ESS data and services,
  • provide AI-powered interfaces for discovery, access, and cross-domain integration,
  • demonstrate pilots in urban resilience, agro-environmental monitoring, and seismology,
  • promote responsible, reproducible, explainable, transparent, and frugal AI,
  • build capacity through training and engagement to support broad uptake.
