The Narratia project aims to transform the way European cultural heritage is experienced by combining generative artificial intelligence and immersive technologies. It addresses the challenge of limited accessibility and declining visitor numbers at heritage sites by creating personalised and interactive experiences that allow visitors to explore historical places and events through dynamic storytelling.
Narratia will develop an innovative approach in which visitors become active participants and co-authors of stories embedded in real heritage sites. Generative AI will be used to create personalised narratives and interactions with historical characters and events, while immersive technologies will connect these experiences with the physical environment. The project combines creative possibilities with safeguards for historical accuracy, ethical integrity and cultural sensitivity.
The approach will be demonstrated through six pilots in five European countries, covering different types of cultural heritage, including archaeological parks, medieval routes, baroque cities, UNESCO sites and industrial heritage. The pilots will demonstrate the applicability and replicability of AI-driven immersive storytelling across diverse heritage contexts and support collaboration with local stakeholders.
The project will contribute to new forms of cultural and educational experiences, increasing the accessibility and attractiveness of heritage sites and exploring new opportunities for the use of AI and immersive technologies in the cultural and creative sectors.
