SYMEC
MEC System enabling advanced applications in wired and wireless 3G/4G/5G networks

The goal of the SYMEC project is to design, implement, and test the MEC System aimed at enriching the range of services offered by telecoms and ensuring their quality at a satisfying level for end users. The MEC System allows users to use services from points located close to users, and not as it is currently the case with points located in the backbone of the Internet. The MEC System consists of three main elements: i) MEC server, ii) MEC server orchestrator, whose task is to manage the work of a network of MEC servers, and iii) a repository of services/applications used by users. The MEC System is an important element of the 5G network, however, it can also be used in currently used 3G / 4G wired and wireless networks. The MEC System project involves the use of virtualization techniques to implement both network and application infrastructure.

The project is implemented by a scientific and industrial consortium: Institute of Telecommunications – National Research Institute (project leader), Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center, Gdańsk University of Technology, and DGT from Gdańsk. Potential recipients of the product are mobile and access network operators and enterprises using cloud services.
