PSNC Energy Lab: Meeting of the Subcommittee for Eastern Wielkopolska

During the 13th meeting of the Subcommittee for Eastern Wielkopolska in Konin (March 24, 2026), progress was presented on key strategic projects for the region. One of the pillars of the discussed activities is the PSNC EnergyLab project, implemented by PCSS, which serves as the research and development (R&D) foundation for a comprehensive socio-economic and energy transformation.

The main goal of the venture is to develop innovative solutions supporting the transition from a coal-based economy toward modern renewable energy and advanced digital services. As part of the project, specialized R&D infrastructure is being built to enable research on clean energy optimization and the creation of advanced mathematical models. A key element of this work is the development of so-called “Digital Twins,” which will allow for precise analysis, forecasting, and the support of strategic decisions related to the development of Eastern Wielkopolska.

The project structure is based on three specialized laboratories, each responsible for a different aspect of the transformation:

  • Laboratory of digital twins, computer simulations, and artificial intelligence applications – focused on data processing and creating digital copies of processes occurring within the region;

  • Laboratory of efficient digital nodes, renewable energy, and smart grids – dedicated to research on RES (Renewable Energy Sources) and improving energy efficiency;

  • Living Lab – a space for interaction with stakeholders, serving for education, training, and involving the local community in the change processes.

The implementation of the project involves broad support for various target groups. Entrepreneurs from the ICT, AI, and RES sectors will gain access to modern research results, which will translate into increased competitiveness. Local government units will receive tools to improve spatial planning and energy management, while residents of the region will benefit from educational programs and better access to information regarding the environment and green energy investment opportunities.

By utilizing artificial intelligence and data processing technologies, PSNC EnergyLab not only accelerates technological transformation but also has a real impact on improving environmental aspects and social inclusion in the region.

The project is implemented under Measure 10.03: “Building an ecosystem of business environment institutions and supporting public R&D infrastructure and digitalization of public administration” of the European Funds for Wielkopolska 2021-2027 program.
