We invite you to the Poznański Horyzont Danych

WICHER-M, AI Literature, and AI Shopping – these are the main topics that will be featured during the upcoming Poznański Horyzont Danych meeting, which will take place on October 29, 2025, at the PCSS headquarters. Among the experts focusing on artificial intelligence will be Wiktor Kamzela from the PCSS Energy-Efficient ICT Technologies Department.

“Weather forecasts are an inseparable part of our lives, and their accuracy is crucial for many fields such as agriculture, spatial planning, aviation, and renewable energy,” explains Wiktor Kamzela, a fourth-year Artificial Intelligence student at Poznań University of Technology and a Junior Machine Learning Researcher at the Poznańskie Centrum Superkomputerowo-Sieciowe, where he conducts research on machine learning models used for weather forecasting.
Traditional forecasting methods are limited in their ability to predict weather in high resolution over large geographic areas due to high computational costs. For example, a global model typically uses a resolution of 0.25°, meaning that there is only one pixel covering the entire city of Poznań. This has led to growing interest in alternative neural network-based models, such as transformers.

“Our proposal, WICHER-M (Weather Intelligence through Computational High-resolution Environmental Representation Model), uses climate reanalysis data (ERA5) and high-resolution simulations using the WRF model. Based on these datasets, we conduct fine-tuning of the Aurora model — a state-of-the-art foundation model for Earth’s climate — enabling weather forecasting at a resolution ten times higher than the original model,” says Wiktor.
This work was recognized with the “Best Poster Award” at this year’s ML in PL conference.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 29, at 6:00 PM at PCSS, 10 Jana Pawła II Street.
