It is a dark and cold November, still long time before Christmas. Fortunately, we have some good news to brighten up this autumn twilight state of mind and weather.
In this edition of PSNC News you will find out why Polish Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski has visited our headquarters, discover the secrets of our brand new application called NimbusQA, learn about the services that EOSC EU Node has recently launched and read about a new fibre optic link connecting Poland and Germany. The world just cannot get enough of quantum computing, so we have also got a suitable article on that – this time concerning hybrid quantum systems and cryptography.
Enjoy the reading!

Breaking News! PSNC’s data storage system for the Proxima cluster is at #10 on the IO500 10 Node Production List. The list has just been published during the SC24 in Atlanta.
This year’s SC24 takes place in Atlanta between 17-22 November. The PIONIER Consortium together with the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center present their achievements and current projects at booth #1149. Direct coverage, photos and project materials prepared for this event are published regularly on our blog.
At the beginning of October, the EOSC EU NODE was officially launched in Brussels. It is a reference node for the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) provided by the European Commission. PSNC is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the advanced services available on the platform. The Poznań Center supports the platform’s users at every stage of their research, which promote collaboration and innovation in the European scientific community.
The installation of the “Pathfinder” link between Braunschweig (PTB) and Poznań (PSNC) was a success. It is supposed to be the herald of the entire network of European connections dedicated to time and frequency transfer promoted by GÉANT.

“Developing Digital Competencies in Quantum Engineering in 2024 & 2025” is the title of a letter of intent signed at the PCSS headquarters on October 30th. The letter was signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski, Deputy Minister of Digital Affairs Paweł Olszewski, and acting Director of PSNC Robert Pękal. The agreement outlines key tasks that will increase the competencies of Polish scientists and specialists in the field of quantum technologies.
Should we combine quantum computing with classical compute services? Would such hybrids work and stay protected in a post-quantum cryptography environment? PSNC specialists are trying to address those questions at SC24 in Atlanta.
PSNC experts participated in the international Voice4PIMD workshop at the University of Notre Dame, which aimed to improve communication for individuals with profound intellectual disabilities. The workshop featured a presentation on the INSENSION project, showcasing how innovative technologies can enhance the quality of life for individuals with severe disabilities.

The NimbusQA application, developed by the PSNC Media Solutions Lab, revolutionizes the way we assess image quality. Through advanced algorithms, the application automatically analyzes special patterns placed on images, providing precise information about image quality. This tool is crucial for the DIAG project, which aims to ensure the highest quality standards in the digitization of our cultural heritage.
