NimbusQA application was created by the PSNC Media Solutions Lab for Phase One, which is one of the leading digital photography companies in the world. The application is actually a cloud-based service designed to simplify the calibration and verification of digital reproduction systems, specifically tailored for photographers and cultural heritage professionals. NimbusQA offers a simple and enhanced experience for its users. By providing free access to comprehensive reproduction target analysis, this app empowers operators to realize the highest standards of accuracy and quality in digital preservation, ensuring the highest possible image quality even for the most demanding heritage digitization and preservation projects.
With NimbusQA it is easy to upload files from their preferred capture software or camera to receive detailed analysis against industry standards and guidelines such as FADGI, ISO 19264, and Metamorfoze. The platform currently supports various test targets including Golden Thread Device Level Target, QA-62, Digital ColorChecker SG, FADGI ISO 19264, and Universal Test Target TE262 A3/A4.
Phase One manufactures high quality cameras designed for demanding professionals. Such cameras can be used for digitalization of cultural goods and aerial or industrial photography, among others. The collaboration between PSNC and Phase One started during the realization of DARIAH-Lab project, as PSNC acquired Phase One cameras with Schneider-Kreuznach and Rodenstock lenses for the highest possible quality digitalization.
NimbusQA application and the experience gained during its creation will be a valuable contribution to a project initiated by PSNC which goes by the name of DIAG (Digital Imaging Accuracy Guidelines). This groundbreaking project is destined to redefine standards of picture quality management and that is going to take the process of heritage digitalization in Poland to a whole new level.
The application was created by the PSNC Media Solutions Lab team, featuring: Marcin Dąbrowski, PhD (algorithms, formulas, standardization), Adama Skorupa (full stack developer), Mariusz Plichta (full stack developer), Łukasz Staszak (architect and back-end developer) and Magdalena Ryszewska (models, graphics, vectorization of patterns). The process was also supported by Piotr Kaźmierski and Olga Ormańczyk from the PNSC New Media Department. NimbusQA utilizes code prepared by Michał Ladziński and Piotr Surowiec – students of the Poznań University of Technology. As an additional result, there were also two excellent M.Sc. theses written.
