Between 16th and 18th of June this year in Austin (TX, USA) the Thirteenth International Symposium on Electronic Theses and Dissertation ETD2010 was organized by NDLTD. On the symposium the representatives of scientific institutions from all over the world were exchanging experience related to popularization of the idea of electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs), and also to collecting ETDs and making them available on-line. Main activities in this subject from USA, Canada, several countries from Central and South America and also Africa and Europe were presented.

Are you a football fan, but you can not watch the World Cup 2010 on TV? You can use the suggestions of TVP. Polish Television in cooperation with Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center in the network will broadcast all the events played at stadiums in South Africa.

At the Research for Industry Fair scientists from the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center presented the latest innovations in technology, developed in the center. Professionals from the Applications Department of PSNC developed an application which enables viewing and editing photos by performing gestures in front of a camera.

“ICT for open access to scientific information” was the motto was held on 28 May in Brussels headquarters of the Promotion of Science Polish Academy of Sciences meeting with experts of the European Commission. The event, part of the project “Poland Meetings”, also attended by representatives of Polish research teams, including the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center.

The stand of Consortium PIONIER and Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center enjoyed great interest of conference attendees this year. Network users could see there the results of Polish videoconference infrastructure in the PIONIER network, as well as remote, network, high-resolution video transmission – 4K, four times greater than modern, universal HD.

The second day of the conference ran under the slogan “the right to protection of identity” in the digital world, management of personal and social information, including in the context of preserving heritage and culture. In addition to the Grid technology, advanced network architectures, services and data federation, also the digital content solutions were discussed, including the results of research on television with a resolution of 4K, conducted by the institution from Poznań.

From 31 May to 2 June in Hamburg will be held international conference of ISC. It is Europe’s largest meeting of environmental engineering supercomputing is known for its world-class discussions between specialists from various fields of science and industry leaders. IT Environment scientists from our country will be represented by the Consortium Polish Optical Internet; PIONIER network operator, Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center, the exhibition accompanying the conference prepared a special booth presenting the latest Polish ICT work.

A unique opportunity to visit the operating room while doctors work! Have a look at photos from the operating table of the Department of Otolaryngology of Poznań University of Medical Sciences. On May 27 the head of the facility – professor Witold Szyfter conducted operations observed by the viewers of the forty countries from different parts of the world. Modern audio, video-conferencing equipment in HD quality, as well as the access to broadband optical network PIONIER during operations, were provided the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center.

Interactive, because the payee will be able to question doctors by moderators.

Problems faced by entrepreneurs and scientists who set up cooperation in the commercialization of research results, the commercial value of the results of scientific projects, willingness of Polish research centers to supply products with both scientific and market value and the willingness of enterprises to take advantage of this research in their business. There were a lot of topics discussed at the conference in Gdańsk Science and Technology Park, because although the idea of commercialization of science is not controversial, it still faces many challenges.
