ACCESS IT e-learning courses were developed to facilitate education in the area of digitisation and digital libraries in Greece, Serbia and Turkey. Reference materials developed by PSNC – released in October 2010, were deployed, translated and customized by ACCESS IT partners. We are very pleased to announce that this work has been finished in Turkey.

The New Year offers us new perspectives, presents new challenges, we look in future with hope of something new and better. Every New Year is also an occasion to draw conclusions, reflections on what we have done, what we have achieved in the past year. For Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center year 2010 was unique in several aspects. We present a brief summary of PSNC’s activity in the last twelve months.

In early December in Madrit a meeting initiating a new research project called Wf4Ever was held. It aims at providing the methods and tools required to ensure the long-term storage of scientific workflows in order to support the scientific discovery process and the development of new scientific assets.

„The problem of assuring homeland security as a challenge for Polish UE Presidency in 2011” was the main issue of this year’s Polish Platform for Homeland Security Conference, traditionally hosted in the conference centre of PAS Institute of Mathematics in Będlewo near Poznań. The event was also attended by representatives of the PSNC.

In May, the participants were hosted in Poznan on the second edition of the GeeCON conference. The topics of the conference concerned the Java language and technologies based on Java Virtual Machine. In the capital of Wielkopolska met 450 JAVA fans.

In November two investments in expansion of Polish Optical Internet PIONIER network – a nationwide broadband optical science network – were completed. In the south of the country the construction of new fiber optic line came to an end, and the north has been enriched by a new optical transmission system.

Wielkopolska Marshal Office is creating a strategy for promoting economy of the region for the next 10 years. Poznań Supercomputing and Network Center has been invited to cooperate in developing the document.
