At the beggining of February 2010 PSNC joined European IMPACT (Improving Access To Text) project. PSNC Digital Libraries Team is responsible for the works assigned to PSNC within the IMPACT project.

Year 2009 appeared to be the record year in terms of the number of newly started digital libraries. Yesterday on dLibra project home page, 16th entry concerning 2009 has been added to the list of dLibra installations. It means that in 2009 there were started 4 more digital libraries than in 2008 (see http://dlibra.psnc.pl/biblioteki/). Moreover, from the information that we receive it appears that 2009 is not finally “closed” – there is still a chance to increase the number of newly started digital libraries in 2009 by several entries.

On the 16th of February 2010 in the ROARMAP registry a policy of the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics PAS regarding the compulsory archiving of all published manuscripts in the IBB PAS institutional repository was registered. It is a 145th entry in this database and the first entry from Poland. Congratulations!

This week the PIONIER Network Digital Libraries Federation (PIONIER DLF) has submitted to the DART-Europe data about another Polish e-theses and dissertations (ETDs) – the number increased by more than 700 publications, reaching a total value of 1 102. This is the credit of 5 new digital libraries that have decided to pass on information about their ETDs .

Recently a new version of the Manuscriptorium portal, which is the basic result of the European ENRICH project, was launched.

On January 20, 2010 PSNC became the official partner of the DART-Europe project. The aim of this project is to facilitate in the access and use of European e-theses and dissertations. This aim is realized by the aggregation of the metadata of such works available on-line and by allowing to access and search in the aggregated information via a dedicated portal.

From 11 December 2009, in the European Digital Library – Europeana, there are avaialble resources of dozens of Polish digital libraries congregated around the PIONIER Network Digital Libraries Federation. These resources include over 250 000 digital objects made available by the hundreds of cultural and scientific institutions from different parts of Poland. Among them are both treasures of our national heritage, as well as interesting regional materials or modern scientific and educational publications. The vast majority of publications is available to all Internet users without any restrictions.

Another, already 22-nd edition of the largest HPC environment meeting, Supercomputing Conference, took place in 14-20 of November 2009 in Portland, Oregon, USA. For the fourth time PSNC in collaboration with the PIONIER Consortium presented the Polish achievements in the branch.

On the occasion of opening of the new laboratory of high definition at Colchester, Great Britain, as a result of cooperation between PSNC and the University of Essex, the first presentation of 4K video streaming according to the standards determined by the Digital Cinema Initiatives was carried out.

The first edition of the Internet-Infrastructures-Innovations Conference in Poznan was both well organized and well attended.

The 4K Initiative was introduced during the ‘i3 Conference – Internet, Infrastructures, Innovations’.
