30 Years of Digitalization at the Jagiellonian Library

The Jagiellonian Library in Kraków is one of the biggest and oldest libraries in Poland. For the last three decades the institution has been digitalizing its assets to make them available for online users, among others. To celebrate 30 years of this journey into the digital realm, a conference titled “Digitalization of the Library Resources: The Current State and Perspectives” will be held on 5 and 6 June 2025. The event is going to feature public appearances of two PCSS representatives – Tomasz Parkoła and dr Marcin Dąbrowski.

The main goal of the conference is to sum up the 30 years of digitalization in terms of cooperation with various institutions both Polish and international, exchange of experience, and presentation of the latest achievements in preparing digital resources. It is worth to note that since 2010, the Jagiellonian Library has been using the dLibra system for building digital libraries – software created in and supported by PCSS.

The main topics of the conference include: digital resources and repositories management, the latest tools for graphic processing and recognizing text from various types of collections.

On the initial day of this conference, Tomasz Parkoła (Director of Network Services Division at PCSS) is going to take an active part in a discussion panel devoted to the future of digital libraries. Dr Marcin Dąbrowski (New Media Department at PCSS), on the other hand, will discuss the quality of images in the context of making digital copies.
