PSNC Celebrates General Chłapowski’s Birthday

On 24 May 2025, the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry PAS along with the affiliated Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center organized a special picnic commemorating General Dezydery Chłapowski’s birthday. It was an integration event for ICHB PAS/PSNC employees and the local community of Turew, which hosted the weekend meeting. The heart of the picnic was the 18th-century manor house that used to be a property of the Chłapowski family and now belongs to ICHB PAS. The event was organized as a part of the “Organic Work – The Heritage of Wielkopolska Inhabitants” program. Part of the funds for the picnic was provided by the governing body of the Wielkopolska Region.

General Dezydery Chłapowski (1788-1879) was one of the most distinguished residents of Wielkopolska. He was a Napoleonic officer and a baron of the then French Empire, who participated in the Napoleonic Wars, the November Uprising (Polish national uprising against the Russian Empire in 1830), and the Wielkopolska Uprising (1848). His estate became the cradle of organic work. Modern agriculture of the region was actually shaped there.

The birthday picnic organised by IBCH PAS / PSNC featured a variety of attractions involving history, fashion, dancing and even some technology. The local community prepared delicious food characteristic of the Wielkopolska region. Additionally guests had a chance to try some melons, which were the General’s favourite snack.
