Quantum workshops during the CMM 2025 conference

The international conference “Computer Methods in Mechanics CMM-2025)” took place in Łódź from July 8 to 11, 2025. It was a meeting of the Polish Society of Computational Methods in Mechanics (PTMKM), a member of the International Association for Computational Mechanics (IACM). During the event, specialists from PCSS conducted a workshop entitled “Demystifying Quantum Computing: A Practical Introduction.”

Each edition of the conference brings together scientists and engineers whose research focuses on the development, implementation, and application of modern computational methods in engineering and applied sciences. This year’s meeting focused on engineering calculations with the use of the Finite Element Method (FEM) and the Boundary Element Method (BEM), simulation of structural safety and durability, analysis of materials and structures with multiple geometric scales, modeling of heterogeneous and composite materials, optimization methods and their applications in engineering practice, as well as computational modeling of heat and mass transport, and biomechanics.

A significant part of the conference consisted of workshops prepared by experts from PCSS, which introduced participants to the basics of quantum computing and simulation. Key concepts in quantum computing were also discussed, with particular emphasis on their practical applications in mechanics, based on specific scenarios. Possible paths for further study were also presented, along with PCSS educational materials that support the development of competencies in this field. It was emphasized why it’s worth starting to experiment with quantum technology right now.
