Ceremonial presentation of interactive educational application “Children of Poznan. History of the 15th Poznan Uhlans Regiment”

On April 24, 2022 at the Military Museum of Wielkopolska, on the occasion of the Regiment’s Day, the premiere presentation of the interactive educational application “Children of Poznan. History of the 15th Poznan Uhlans Regiment”. The project was co-financed by the NIEPODLEGLA Multiannual Programme for 2017-2022. One of the partners of the project is Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center.

Celebrations of the 15th Poznan Uhlans Regiment were held with the participation of the authorities of the Wielkopolska Region, Self-Government of the Wielkopolska Region , representatives of the Poznan City authorities, reenactment groups, the Society of Former Soldiers and Friends of the 15th Poznań Uhlans Regiment, Representative Units and current soldiers from the 15th Lieutenant General Władysław Anders Poznan Uhlans Battalion.

“Children of Poznan. History of the 15th Poznan Uhlans Regiment” is an educational application but it is not designed only for schools, students and teachers. The current educational program treats this part of history very briefly, and the actions of Wielkopolska Region military units are not mentioned in school materials. That is why the application is, on the one hand, a basis for educational or historical lessons, also thanks to the modular, selective “lessons”, consiting of several fragments of descriptions of events with accompanying maps and timeline. In addition, the content is supplemented by multimedia: galleries of archival and reconstruction photos as well as films and radio plays. The scope of the material is therefore much greater than the possibilities of presentation at school.

The aim of the authors was not to create an encyclopaedic website that is a summary of an existing textbook or a script with links to other sources on the Internet. “Children of Poznańn. History of the 15th Poznan Uhlans Regiment” is rather a foundation for building a story, material for further exploration of popular historical knowledge of the period, which can also be used to create interactive presentations in museum spaces.

In the course of several months of work, over 3,000 multimedia objects were collected, of which over 1,100 are archival photographs, another 1,600 are photographs taken during several historical reconstruction days and albums of contemporary photographs, and nearly a hundred other materials are film etudes, interviews with specialists, animated by the method of backstage perspective to three-dimensional archival photographs and immersive presentations of reconstruction uniforms. It is probably the most complete publication about the Poznań Uhlans with such a rich collection of source materials that has ever been created.

The application was made possible thanks to a joint, regional coalition of institutions of science, art, new technologies and culture, as well as many people and institutions for whom the idea of preserving our common heritage has become equally important.

The project “Children of Poznan. History of the 15th Poznan Uhlans Regiment” was co-financed from the funds of the Multiannual Programme NIEPODLEGŁA for 2017-2022.
