Digital Summit in Gdańsk

On 17 and 18 June 2025, the Digital Summit conference was held at the European Solidarity Centre in Gdańsk. This event created a space for discussion on Europe’s digital future, involving ministers, technology industry leaders, scientists, and representatives of the most innovative companies; Robert Pękal, the Director of PCSS, was among them. During the conference, Poland’s presidency of the EU Council in the area of digitalization was summarized, and common plans for this area of activity for the coming years were outlined.

Robert Pękal participated in a panel discussion titled “Quantum applications for the economy” which took place on the first day of the conference. The entire panel was moderated by Pamela Krzypkowska, the Director of the Research and Innovation Department in the Ministry of Digital Affairs. The panel talks featured also representatives of IBM, the European HPC-Joint Undertaking, the Center for Digital Safety and Security (AIT), and AI Albania.

Among the summit’s topics were the most important challenges currently faced by small and medium-sized enterprises in  Europe including: the implementation of modern technologies such as AI, the use of data clouds, and adaptation to EU digital legislation (e.g. the AI Act and DMA). The topic of reducing regulatory barriers and administrative burdens that slow down innovation and development was also discussed.
