Early in 2012 IMPACT Centre of Competence will gain its final shape and will be able to cooperate and help all interested in mass digitization. Because the initiative is an effect of the European IMPACT project, key roles in the centre initiation play project partners.

HELPS Project has been approved within the Central Europe 2010 Restricted Call for Strategic Projects, priority Competitiveness, and has started in October 2011. Kick-off Meeting of strategic project HELPS will be held on the 6th and 7th December 2011 in Poznań.

The Polish Presidency of the European Union (Ministry of the Interior and Administration) and the European Commission are organizing in close co-operation the sixth Ministerial eGovernment Conference, entitled “Borderless eGovernment Services for Europeans”, on 17 – 18 November 2011 in the City of Poznań. PSNC has prepared the conference website and will broadcast online the plenary sessions.

Supercomputing Conference will be held from 12th to 18th November 2011 in Seattle, which is the world’s largest meeting for High-Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis. Polish achievements in this field, for the sixth time, will be presented by Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center and the PIONIER Consortium.

On 12th and 13th October 2011 in Poznan will be held e-IRG workshop organized under the Polish Presidency of the European Union. The aim of the conference will be to discuss and exchange experiences on visions of development, finance, and the use of IT infrastructure in science (e-Infrastructure) at European-level and in EU member states.

How to understand the language of animals, can we live forever and when to bath your own computer – these and many other answers will be announced on one special night – Researchers’ Night, which will be held on 23rd September 2011. Co-organizer of the event is, as every year, PSNC.

Organized under the Polish presidency of the EU Council, European conference for security – Security Research Conference, organized annually, will be held in Warsaw from 19th-21st September 2011.

The registration for the 2011 Polish Digital Libraries Conference will be open for only two more weeks. Current edition of the conference will be held in Kórnik Library of the Polish Academy of Sciences between 10th and 13th of October.

27th National Symposium on Telecommunications and ICT – “KSTiT 2011” which will be held on 14th-16th September in Łódź will be dedicated to telecommunication and ICT. The event will be attended by representatives of PSNC.

Not only databases, but also issues concerning the construction of distributed and multimedia databases, as well as safety of both the bases and tool aspects will be the main topics of the 6th edition of INFOBAZY Conference, held from 5th to 7th September in Gdańsk.

This year’s IBC fair is accompanied by a one-day „CineGrid Day 2011” conference, where the representatives of PSNC’s Network Department will present their achievements and applications related to high-definition video.

We would like to invite you to the final conference of the IMPACT project, “Digitisation & OCR: Better, faster, cheaper. Solutions of the IMPACT Centre of Competence and future challenges” that will take place on 24-25 October 2011 at the British Library in London. At this conference IMPACT will present the final project results, along with related research in the field of OCR and language technology.
