Hack4Europe! 2012: the summary
The national stage of this year’s international Hack4Europe competition took place on 26 and 27 May 2012 in Warsaw, and was organized by the National Audiovisual Institute. The competition has been prepared in cooperation with Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center.
The participants’ task was to develop an application that will show how to use open cultural resources. Within two days of programming marathon, six prototypes have been developed creatively using resources of largest European digital library Europeana.

The Jury of the national stage of the competition was composed of:

The jury decided that it will be Art Space application developed by Agata Dziekan and Marek Sredniawa that will be presented during the European finals of Hack4Europe 21-22 June in Brussels.This application has been recognized both by the jury – winner in the category “most innovative application” as well as by the audience – winner of the audience award.

Art Space application enables the promotion the collections of Europeana digital library and making it available in public spaces: coffee shops, libraries, schools, hotels, clubs, etc. LCD screens and an online collection management system allow “virtual art leasing” and creating a highly personalized collection. This project links Europeana to other collections, facilitating access to art in everyday situations by encouraging interaction through mobile and social networking sites.
