OSCARS: Paving the Way for Open Science in the European Research Area

The European scientific landscape is undergoing a significant transformation, driven by initiatives such as OSCARS. This ambitious, four-year Horizon Europe project aims to revolutionize research practices across the continent by promoting Open Science principles and supporting the widespread adoption of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data. Our Centre has just joined OSCARS through the DARIAH-EU consortium. PCSS will focus on Work Package 2.

The main goal of OSCARS is to consolidate the significant achievements of European Research Infrastructures (both from the ESFRI roadmap and beyond) into sustainable, interdisciplinary FAIR data services and working practices across various scientific domains and communities.

A cornerstone of the OSCARS project is strengthening the role of the existing Science Clusters within the European Research Area. This will be achieved through several key actions:

  • Development of Community-based Competence Centres: These centres will serve as expert hubs, providing support and guidance to researchers in implementing Open Science practices.
  • Development of Composable Open Data and Analysis Services: OSCARS will develop innovative solutions for data processing and management, enabling researchers to seamlessly integrate and analyze diverse datasets.
  • Fostering the Implementation of Open Science Projects and Services: The project will actively promote and support the development of new Open Science initiatives, driving innovation across various scientific fields.

The OSCARS project represents a major step towards a more open, collaborative, and effective future for scientific research in Europe, strengthening the continent’s position as a leader in the global scientific community. We are particularly pleased about our role as an affiliated partner in this project within the DARIAH-EU consortium.
