eduMeet supports remote education

eduMEET is an interactive videoconferencing platform based on the WebRTC service, supporting remote communication and teaching processes. During the global coronavirus epidemic, an international team, coordinated by PSNC’s New Media Department, is working within the GÉANT community on the  COVID-19 beta version.

The service is a safe and privacy-friendly alternative to commercial solutions, additionally keeping traffic inside the networks maintained by the scientific community for as long as possible. The beta version is currently available, however, the crisis situation has already resulted in its implementation on a very large scale, e.g. as communication mechanisms for NRENs, support for local institutions in over a dozen countries around the world, medical consultation platforms, a key communication element of PIONIER Research & Classroom and Up2U platforms.

The service is integrated with a number of supporting mechanisms, such as:

  • eduGAIN – to enable federated login process,
  • eduTURN – to avoid NAT and Firewall (STUN/TURN) problems,
  • connection testing mechanisms,
  • service node monitoring system.

In order to launch and properly operate the videoconferencing service, you need a server or a virtual machine with parameters defined on the project website.
