Presentation of the PosEmo project at the HICSS 2024 Conference

The PosEmo project, implemented at the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center, was presented at the 57th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS), which took place from 4 to 6 January 4-6.

Organised by the University of Hawai’i – Shidler College of Business since 1968, the HICSS conference attracts a large number of international experts each year, focusing on issues related to the management of information technology. During this year’s edition, Dr Mikołaj Buchwald from PSNC’s Future Internet Services Department presented the results of the project’s activities, which provide scientific confirmation of the effectiveness of the PosEmo system.

PosEmo is a tool for automatically determining a person’s involvement and emotional arousal in a camera image. The tool, developed as part of the project, can automatically identify the involvement and intensity of a person’s emotional response based on the camera image. Research shows that a person’s behaviour in front of the camera: how often the person moves, how far he/she is from the screen/camera and how this distance changes over time, can be an indicator of a person’s emotional involvement with the content appearing on the screen. The solution can be used to test the usability and user experience of graphical user interfaces of computer applications, as a feature of videoconferencing software, or in educational scenarios to automatically collect feedback from users (meeting participants).

As Dr Buchwald pointed out, the presentation of the project results was possible thanks to the cooperation of the entire PSNC research team, which included Szymon Kupiński, Magdalena Biadala, Maciej Behnke, Jan Nowak, Wojciech Andrzejewski and Oleksandr Yasinskyi.
