The First Meeting of the KMD4EOSC Project

The First Meeting of the KMD4EOSC Project

On 14 and 15 May 2025 PSNC headquarters hosted the first meeting of the KMD4EOSC project, which translates as “universal infrastructure for data storage and sharing and efficient processing of large volumes of data in HPC, BigData and artificial intelligence models”.

The KMD4EOSC consortium includes eleven units:

Discussions and presentations during the meeting were focused on tasks realized by four laboratories:

  • Laboratory 1: functional elements, service components and infrastructure that implement data management, data storage and access, as well as mechanisms ensuring data access performance, processing, security and reliability.
  • Laboratory 2: mechanisms ensuring appropriate logical-level data management, including storing data organized in repositories, processing, aggregating, and searching metadata; technical solutions and activities ensuring the adaptation of repositories, metadata aggregators and search engines to the requirements of open science (European Commission, Polish Ministry of Education and Science).
  • Laboratory 3: durability mechanisms, including technical and organizational mechanisms that ensure durability at the level of architecture design, openness of interfaces and technology selection; system and service management procedures (including monitoring, error detection and response, related support mechanisms and security audits).
  • Laboratory 4: mechanisms for data access through various interfaces – from interfaces and access organization in a Data Lake/Data Mesh model to elements allowing for the analysis and processing of data collected in repositories using AI models, as well as services enabling advanced, contextual data searching using large language models.

The second day of the meeting featured presentations of the KMD4EOSC partners’ experiences concerning the use of LLM models in AI.

KMD is also connected with open science. This connection is related to EOSC (European Open Science Cloud) – the European Commission policy of sharing data and information for the benefit of science, economy and society. EOSC stand for big data repositories which provide users with intelligent methods of browsing that involve AI. In addition to that, EOSC offers a catalogue of open services – which are available to anyone who is interested in them. According to the official policy of the Polish Ministry of Education, KMD is a platform which realizes in practice the guidelines of open science in Poland.

Project FENG.02.04-IP.04-0015/24 National Data Warehouse. Universal Infrastructure for Storage and Sharing of Data and Efficient Processing of Large Volumes of Data in HPC, BigData and Artificial Intelligence Models (KMD4EOSC) is a project subsidized by the European Union (Funds for the Modern Economy in Poland 2021-2027).
