4K at its best in Geneva
PSNC presented the possibility of real-time streaming video in high-resolution 4K (4096×2160) at a meeting of the GLIF (Global Lambda Integrated Facility) working draft, which took place on 13 and 14 October in Geneva. Thanks to links connected especially for the occasion, based on a GLIF infrastructure, streams of video with a capacity of 250 Mbps performance, aDCI (Digital Cinema Initiative) standards, were sent.
The network linked Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center, the University of Essex in Colchester, and CERN headquarters in Geneva, where the conference took place. Despite the considerable distance between the sites (the link from Poznań through Hamburg and Amsterdam to Geneva had nearly 2 thousand kilometers!) Transmission delay was virtually imperceptible, and was only a few dozen milliseconds.

For a multimedia presentation a specially designed stall consisting of a Intopix JPEG2000 decoder, AstroDesign 4K monitor, two additional HD TVs and a sound system.

Both the network project and the possibility of streaming high definition media attracted much interest from GLIF conference participants, and there was a lecture dedicated to the presentation. The mere demonstration was held under the auspices of the initiative HPDMNet, which both PSNC and the University of Essex are members.

PSNC was represented at the event by: Bartosz Belter, Maciej Głowiak i Bernard Latanowicz present in Geneva, the representative of the University of Essex Okung was Dike Ntofon.
