The Launch of the First Polish AI Factory – PIAST-AI

Today at PCSS a significant step towards making Europe a leader in AI technology has been taken. The PIAST-AI Factory at the Poznań Center was selected by the European Commission to participate in the “AI Factories” program. This makes the Capital of Wielkopolska region a crucial driving force in the development of fields such as: IT, cybersecurity, space technologies, robotics, and sustainable development.

At the beginning of June 2025, a Hosting Agreement which confirms the location of the AI Factory at PCSS was signed. In July, the PIAST-AI Consortium will commence its activities in cooperation with: the Poznań University of Technology, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, and Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, as well as with regional clusters and innovation hubs, particularly the Wielkopolska ICT Cluster. The investment is supported by the Ministry of Digitalization, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and the Ministry of Finance, which coordinates the entire process.

As a part of the Factory, a server for AI computing applications will be purchased. It will be equipped with over 1000 graphics cards and integrated with the quantum and computing ecosystem.

Comprehensive services based on the PIAST-AI system are set to be launched in the third quarter of 2026. The use of cutting-edge AI technologies will spur innovation and ensure Poland’s digital competitiveness globally. The benefits of this investment are hard to overstate. It will create a dynamic knowledge-sharing system that addresses social, environmental, and economic challenges. The launch of PIAST-AI also marks a significant step towards Europe’s technological sovereignty, based on the ethical application of artificial intelligence and a commitment to sustainable development in this field.

Dariusz Standerski, Polish Secretary of State for Digital Affairs:

We are launching one of the most ambitious technology projects in recent years – the construction of PIAST-AI, a next-generation artificial intelligence factory. This investment will not only accelerate the development of national technologies but also strengthen Poland’s position as a key player in the European AI ecosystem. I believe PIAST-AI will become a hub of innovation for scientists, entrepreneurs, and engineers across the region.

Robert Pękal, Director of PCSS:

The EuroHPC JU’s decision to locate the Piast-AI Factory at the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center (PCSS) is a great honor for us and a testament to many years of hard work by our team. We are proud that PCSS will become the heart of AI innovation in Poland and an important pillar in building European technological sovereignty. This investment is not just about equipment and infrastructure; it’s primarily an opportunity to create a dynamic collaborative environment that will attract talent and enable the development of groundbreaking solutions to address the challenges of the modern world. I believe that, together with our academic and industrial partners, we will be able to fully leverage the potential of Piast-AI for the benefit of science, the economy, and society.
