Chopin Competition in the Internet
This year’s International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition was unique in several aspects. Sixteenth edition took place in the year in which we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of the great Polish composer. A record number of music lovers could keep track of the contest. Live webcast was available on the pages of TVP SA and the National Audiovisual Institute.
From 2nd to 21st October, all-day live broadcasts, prepared by TVP Kultura, were also available on the website TVP.pl. In addition, the programs produced by TVP 2, describing the course of the contest, were archived and are available on the web pages of television.

The possibility to see the concert through TVP.pl was particularly attractive for the Polish community as well as admirers of Chopin’s music in the whole world, especially in Japan and China. Transmissions via the Web was the only chance for music lovers to directly participate in the event.

The transmission was made available on the Internet by using the PSNC Content Delivery System embedded in the PIONIER network. For many years TVP SA uses advanced services provided by PSNC for the daily distribution of their multimedia experience on the Internet. Thanks to this cooperation there is a possibility to share multimedia content for a large number of simultaneous users. Functioning system allows stable and efficient way to provide the current presence of multimedia content on the Internet TVP, but also enables such broadcasting of the major sport and cultural events. ”This is another event that we transmite and already the second consecutive Chopin Piano Competition, which is broadcasted on the Internet for TVP SA” – said Ph.D. Cezary Mazurek, Director Network Services Department PSNC.

Transmissions from the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition were carried out in a very good quality and the scale of interest has confirmed that this form of access is very attractive to the viewers.
