Demonstration of the GOF 2.0 project

On September 29, 2021, a demonstration was held at the airport in Kakolewo as part of the GOF 2.0 research project. Integrated Urban Airspace Validation. The demonstration ‘s aim was to carry out many concurrent missions with the use of unmanned aerial vehicles in a simulated urban environment by Polish and foreign teams of operators.

The GOF 2.0 project is a continuation of the SESAR JU Gulf of Finland (GOF) U-space project, in which the safe integration of UAVs in the airspace was successfully demonstrated in summer 2019. The current project goes one step further; it will test drone flights in urban airspace over the next two years. The programme, which started in January this year, is implemented by a consortium of 13 members under SESAR JU “GOF 2.0 Integrated Urban Airspace Validation” initiative with the participation of PSNC.

The event was attended by foreign and Polish partners of the consortium along with their flying platforms. In addition, the flights were attended by a delegation of the Air Force Institute of Technology with its own flying platform and an aircraft of Poznan Aeroclub together with the helicopter of the Polish Medical Air Rescue, whose entry into the area of operation required tactical deconfliction with drone missions.

The missions carried out in the space of the airport in Kakolewo implemented representative scenarios, which are planned in the cities for the current and the next decade: freight transport, high and low altitude observation, area and buildings mapping, and autonomous passenger transport. The aim of the project is to test operational procedures in practice and to develop, on this basis, multi-level recommendations for standardizing bodies.
