PSNC supported the XXIII International Congress of Historical Sciences

After almost 90 years, the International Congress of Historical Sciences once again came to Poland, this time the host of the event was Poznan. The one-week Congress (21-27.09.2022) was technologically supported by PSNC, and the accompanying exhibition presented projects and services for communities related to the humanities.

he International Committee of Historical Sciences (ICHS) was established in 1926 as a non-governmental organisation, which is made up of national committees representing member countries and specialised committees dealing with specific areas of research. The Committee’s main objective is to promote the historical sciences through international cooperation. The Committee is entrusted with organising successive congresses every five years, in cooperation with historians from the host country. In the past, the congress was held in Poland only once, in 1933 in Warsaw.

This year’s convention of historical science enthusiasts was unique in several respects; first and foremost, thanks to the live broadcast conducted by PSNC, the event was able to be attended online, including participants from as far away as Nigeria, the USA and China. The technocal team used 3 HD cameras with full video and audio production support.

At the exhibition accompanying the Congress PSNC presented the ongoing projects: DARIAH-PL, the DInGO tool, the Digital Libraries Federation as well as scanning (3D scanners, point clouds) and visualisation of museum objects (VR, 360) services. The historical context of PSNC’s activities was complemented by the Ulani project which created an interactive educational application “Children of Poznan. History of the 15th Poznan Uhlans Regiment”.
