The European Commission published information on the PROTECTIVE project

The European Commission published information about the H2020 PROTECTIVE project – “Proactive Risk Management through Improved Cyber Situational Awareness”, which was completed last year. PSNC was the Partner of this project. The aim of PROTECTIVE was to develop tools to support the operational activities of teams responsible for cyber security – both in the scientific network segment and in the segment of small and medium enterprises.

The project was implemented by a consortium of 10 partners led by the Irish Athlone Institute of Technology. Apart from PSNC, operators of Czech and Romanian National Research and Education Networks (CESNET and RoEduNet) participated in the project. In cooperation with these Partners, as well as the Spanish company GMV, a pilot phase of the project was carried out in the NREN environment. Its aim was to validate the solution for correlation and prioritization of security alerts and meta-alerts, based on CESNET tools (Warden, Mentat), WSO2 DAS analytical engine and bespoke jRank software, prepared by PSNC project team. The works carried out by PSNC ICT Security Department consisted, among other activities, of using multi-criteria decision support methods to prioritize the queue of security events. The developed approach uses rough set theory. A user interface was also implemented to support the prioritization module.

The developed system is planned to be used as a mechanism to support security monitoring within the PIONIER national reearch and education network, as well as in installations dedicated to ongoing scientific and research projects.
