PSNC booth at ISC 2022 Conference was devoted to the use of data and HPC infrastructure (High Performance Computing) to build IT services, the support for projects from the Polish Roadmap for Research Infrastructures, as well as key European projects from the ESFRI map (European Strategy Forum for Research Infrastructure).

The Impact Conference is not only a space for industry talks and discussions which have a real impact on the future. It is a unique place where business, science, modern technologies and public administration meet. Representatives of the world’s largest brands joined the two-day discussion. PSNC, which was a supporting partner of the event, was represented by Cezary Mazurek, PhD, Mikołaj Buchwald, PhD and Marcin Lawenda, PhD.

Warnings about weather breakdowns, pests and hazards in the field, quick contact with an agricultural advisor and advice on when and how much to apply plant protection products – these are just some of the advantages of the “Virtual Farm” e-service, which will be available within the eDWIN advisory platform.

For people with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities (PIMD), interaction with the environment is not so easy. In most cases, they are probably dependent on family and caregivers to carry out even basic functions due to severe physical and sensory impairments. And if their communication is not through conventional symbols and at the pre-verbal level, this makes life even more difficult. Such people will be supported by the INSENSION platform, co-created by PSNC.

Audioplays are re-entering the stage in a new form and becoming a window to the world for the blind and visually impaired. PSNC has commenced collaboration with the Special Education Center for Blind Children [Polish: Ośrodek Szkolno-Wychowawczy dla Dzieci Niewidomych] in Owińska, Poland, to present the pupils with two ambisonic (360°-sound) audioplays. Ambisonic sound imitates authentic sound distribution in space, which enables the listener to fully immerse and actively participate in the performance.

As part of the NLPQT project, PSNC launched the first test connection of the system for distribution of the optical carrier at the end of January (optical reference frequency generated by optical clocks), i.e. ultra-precise and ultra-stable frequency standard. The system is also being developed thanks to close cooperation with the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun and the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow.

10 years of work of several people, 1 157 examined cases and over 750 hours of video recordings – the result is the world’s largest database of physiological database of our emotions. Poland, Poznań, 04 February 2022 – The first IBM Quantum Innovation Center in Central and Eastern Europe will be located in Poznan. The Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC) affiliated with the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences will join the IBM Quantum Network, to explore the development of quantum computing applications including advancing artificial intelligence solutions, space technologies, metrology and crisis modeling.

PSNC employees- Mikołaj Buchwald, Szymon Kupiński and Adam Bykowski – together with the members of the Laboratory of Health Psychophysiology at the Adam Mickiewicz University created the largest physiological database of emotions in the world! It was published on 20 January 2022 in Scientific Data – a journal of the Nature publication group.

For the third year in a row, PSNC was involved in the organisation of the CLAW workshop on crisis management for the GÉANT project community. As last year, the situation related to the pandemic, forced the organisers to create a completely new form of conducting the training, entirely online. One hundred people from all over the world took part in this year’s edition; in addition to European institutions, we also hosted representatives from Canada, Ghana and Australia.

Recently, there has been a lot of new information about Polish supercomputers. All because of the TOP500 list identifying the fastest supercomputers in the world, which was announced at the SC’21 Conference (Supercomputing). Polish machines are also present in this prestigious, which were commissioned as part of the PRACE-LAB project. A press article devoted to this subject appeared in “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna” journal.
