DARIAH: meeting at the European Centre for Geological Education, University of Warsaw

On October 10-13, 2022, a meeting of teams from the University of Warsaw (Digital Competence Center UW; Department of Geology UW) and the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center was held at the European Centre for Geological Education at the University of Warsaw in Checiny. the goal was to expand cooperation related to the use of photogrammetry, laser scanning and drone piloting for source data acquisition applications dedicated to archaeological and interdisciplinary projects.

The meeting had a workshop character during which Phantom 4 RTK drones, Matrice M30 and Matrice 300 RTK platforms with Zenmuse P1 (RGB), Zenmuse L1 (LIDAR), Zenmuse H20T (thermal imaging), Share 102S (5 RBG lenses) sensors were tested. Issues related to the use of drones in inspection and monitoring were also discussed, as well as the use of UAVs in photogrammetry, geodesy and GIS, taking into account the current regulations regarding the rules of flight and operation of UAVs. The topic of performing photogrammetry with UAV has been developed from mission planning, through data acquisition to the final products (point cloud, 3D mesh models, NMPT, NMT, orthophotomosaics). The whole analysis was rounded off by issues of analysing the acquired data, exporting the data to other GIS and CAD software, together with generating final reports confirming the quality of the measurements carried out.
