New Message workshop at PSNC Future Labs

New Message workshop at PSNC Future Labs

PSNC Future Labs (Street Zwierzyniecka 20 in Poznan) hosted a workshop around the New Message installation. The event was organised in collaboration with HAT Research Center and Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute.

During 5 meetings, the participants focused on creative and critical reflection around interactive mechanisms used in the New Message installation. The meetings were conducted in the form of lectures and workshops. In the theoretical part, the texts from the field of new humanities (Clemens Apprich, Roy Ascott, McKenzi) were analysed under the supervision of a PhD student from the Institute of Theatre and Media Arts of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. In the practical part, however, under the supervision of PSNC employees, new technological solutions were implemented, extending the possibilities of interaction of the created installation.

In the series under the supervision of Paweł Soloducha (PSNC Future Labs), a prototype of a system recognising the sign language alphabet was created based on the Leap Motion sensor. Marcin Wałęsa (PSNC New Media Department) together with the participants created a web application allowing text communication with the installation and Jan Skorupa (PSNC Future Labs) implemented the created prototypes in the interactive system. All activities were completed together with the workshop participants. As a result, the installation was included in the permanent exhibition of the Wro Art Center collection.
