Report on the innovative QL Future hackathon

On the weekend of May, 27-28 2023, the QL Future hackathon organised in collaboration between PSNC Future Labs and IBM took place in Poznań. Hackathon participants had the opportunity to work with a quantum computer for the first time in Poland. Teams were tasked with proposing an innovative idea or technological solution within 24 hours in the areas of human, planet and climate.

The QL Future quantum hackathon was attended by 45 people, who formed as many as 11 teams! The groups started work at exactly 12:00 on Saturday. Just before the hacking started, specific challenges were announced. Each team decided for themselves which challenges they would solve and whether they would implement the conceptual or technical track. To enter the technical track, it was necessary to have at least a minimum knowledge of quantum technologies. In the concept track, the essential element was to conduct a thorough research and propose scenarios for the use of quantum computing in given areas.

The QL Future hackathon offered participants a unique opportunity to use the power of a quantum computer to create their project. Participants’ access to IBM Quantum computer resources was possible thanks to the IBM’s new policy and partnership with PSNC as part of the IBM Quantum Innovation Center established last year at PSNC. Partners of the event were: Capgemini, Apollogic and Enea. The keynote speech on Saturday was delivered by Voica Radescu from IBM. Mentors and judges included: Piotr Biskupski (IBM), Tomasz Stopa (IBM), Marek Kowalik (Capgemini), Michał Mikucki (Capgemini), Agata Chudzińska (Apollogic) and representatives of PSNC.
The judges decided to award as many as six teams! Three in the technical category and three in the concept category.
